Kato Prize 2025!

We lost a close friend and supporter, and not least a passionate person around the making of the Liverpool Festival in Gjøvik. On Saturday, August 2, we will once again present the award in memory of Kato Jarnang!

Honor his memory!

The Kato Prize is awarded in memory of Kato Jarnang who died suddenly on September 19, 2022. He was a board member of Liverpool Supporters Gjøvik and a driving force in the local supporter community. He was also one of the initiators behind the Liverpool Festival, from a strange idea to the dream being realized in 2022. A festival made by supporters for supporters, completely in Kato's spirit! He only got to experience one festival, on September 19 of the same year he died suddenly! During the Liverpool Festival 2025 we will award the Kato Prize for the 3rd time

Kato was an incredibly generous guy, a guy who cared and was happy to lend a helping hand to those in need. He was also the driving force behind the idea that the Liverpool Festival should give something back beyond good experiences for those in attendance, the Liverpool Festival should be a means of generating financial support for charities that worked for the most vulnerable in society.

Through the last three festivals we have generated approximately NOK 160,000 for charitable purposes.

The Kato Prize is awarded to an association, organization or individual who, through their actions, makes a difference for others in need. No one should stand alone, no one should walk alone.

The Liverpool Festival board has considered candidates for this year's award and the choice has been made. The winner of the Kato Award will be announced during the Liverpool Festival on Saturday evening.

What is the price?

The prize consists of NOK 10,000.00 to a charitable organization, team or association of the winner's choice, in addition to a visible certificate that can be hung on the wall and a carved Liverbird in wood. But most importantly, the prize is a recognition that we have seen that the person in question makes a difference to someone, to someone in need. No one should stand alone, no one should walk alone!

These have won the award previously

Jan Runar Eliassen is known to most people through the award-winning NRK series "Demenskoret". In addition to being a permanent member of the Demenskoret and not least the initiator of countless dementia choirs in Norway, he is also an active and committed man who spends most of his time creating awareness and working to ensure that everyone affected by dementia can live a good and meaningful life. He has contributed greatly to increased openness about the disease that affects so many, and he has become a voice for the many who no longer have a clear and distinct voice.

Jan Runar is a die-hard Liverpool supporter and we are proud to have such a guy on the team. He represents everything we put into being a supporter of the world's best club, no one should walk alone. Fearless, open, positive and with a sincere desire to help and comfort. He was awarded the award in 2023!

Jan Runar har vært og er et fantastisk eksempel på hva supporterskap er. Han gir en stemme til mange som ikke lenger har en stemme.

Last year's winner was Linn Øvstebø, a person who makes a difference to other people. She shows us what volunteering is, the value of it and is an inspiration to both old and young. She represents everything we put into being a supporter of the world's best club, no one should walk alone, no one should stand alone. She makes a difference to other people. She never lets anyone walk alone and she takes the initiative to make everyday life a little brighter for those who need it. She is a role model for all of us Liverpool supporters!

Kato Prize 2025

The most magical thing about the Kato award is that it is presented on a Saturday night when the atmosphere is perhaps at its best. The festival area suddenly becomes completely silent and we get a few minutes to reflect on what it really means to be a Liverpool supporter. Those who eventually go on stage to receive the award not only get a nice round of applause, they get lots of love from the audience. The winner is one of us!
