Best of 2022!

During the Liverpool Festival 2026 we will celebrate our five years and there will therefore be a reunion with several of the legends of previous years, musicians and perhaps a guest or two with close ties to LFC. At the same time, there will also be names on the poster that have not been at our festival before. If there was an album we were to release, it would perhaps be called "Best of Liverpool Festival + bonus tracks" From our first festival in 2022 we have chosen to bring an exceptionally likeable and pleasant guy who we are looking forward to having back to Gjøvik

Supersub!

David Fairclough was born and raised in Liverpool and played his way through the club's Under-18 team into the first team. The striker made his debut in 1975 and scored 7 goals in 14 games, in a season that laid the foundation for the nickname Supersub, in 9 of which he came on as a substitute. It is also part of the history that the club won both the league and the UEFA Cup that season.

When Fairclough made his debut in 1975, he was in a team with big names like Ray Clemence (RIP), Phil Neal, John Toshack, Ian Callaghan, Terry McDermott and Kevin Keegan to name a few. And throughout his years in red, he would also play alongside other big names and legends who helped paint England and Europe red!

Legendary scoring in the European Cup

Perhaps Fairclough's most famous goal came in 1977 when Liverpool needed two goals against St Etienne in the European Cup to progress. Fairclough came on with 20 minutes to go and six minutes later he put the ball into the net in front of "The Kop". TV commentator Gerald Sinstadt exclaimed: "Supersub strikes again".

Mr. Fairclough had a long and eventful career in the red shirt and was able to collect a whopping 19 trophies along the way. He played 153 games for the club and scored 55 goals. 68 of those games were started from the bench and compared to the number of goals scored, it is impressive and certainly qualifies for the nickname Supersub.

For all of us who followed the club in the 70s and early 80s, David will always be a star. He was part of England's football royals until 1983. After Liverpool, there was football in Canada, Switzerland and Belgium before he turned his nose back to the British Isles. Here he played for Norwich City, Oldham Athletic and Tranmere Rovers before ending his career at Wigan Athletic in 1991.

Welcome back David, we look forward to meeting you again!
