We love Sammy, and Sammy loves us!

It will be a wonderful reunion when Sammy Lee makes the trip back to the Liverpool festival. He has missed us, and we have missed him!

A Legend!

Yep, we love Sammy and we think everyone who was at Liverpool Festival 2023 does too. He was tall (!) and short, played guitar (!) danced to LFC songs and delivered wonderful stories from the stage.

Sammy Lee was part of what we must call Liverpool's heyday. Together with legends such as Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush, Alan Hansen and Jan Mølby and (many) more, he showed where the level must be if you want to become a legend. During the eight years he wore red, he brought home league titles and other silverware on a scale that few can dream of. He has four league championships, several British Cup titles and two European Cup trophies with Liverpool on his CV. He won 14 international matches for England and has also made his mark on the scoring list there.

Give up in 1991!

Sammy retired in 1991 but did not leave football. He has had an impressive career as a coach and manager. In 1993, he became part of the coaching apparatus around Liverpool FC, under Graeme Souness and later under both Evans and Houllier. In 2001, he was called up to the national team and became assistant manager under Sven-Göran Eriksson. Later (2008) he would return to Liverpool as assistant manager under the legendary Rafa Benitez. In addition, he also spent two years at Southampton as manager under Ronald Koeman

Sammy has also been to Gjøvik when he was an active player. This is in July 1984 and both Phil Neal and Ray Clemence were there. Next to Sammy in the picture is a, at least for Vålerenga supporters, a well-known guy. Toma Henning Hovi, also called Kong Hovi, the Gjøvik boy who was captain of Enga and cup champion for the same club!

Sam Allardyce

Sammy and Sam became a "couple" when they managed Bolton Wanderers from 2005, the club where Lee ended his career in 1991. Together these two would manage both the England national team, Crystal Palace, West Bromwich and Everton (!)

Look forward to a reunion with Sammy, and if you weren't there in 2023, you can look forward to getting to know a real legend better!
